We are so excited about our newest doll. It was inspired by a woman that Audrey and I
admire very much, Madam C.J. Walker. The first African-American woman millionaire.
She was the daughter of former slaves and worked as a laundress for 20 years of her
life. In 1905 she created a hair formula for African-American women that promoted hair
growth. She not only created a million dollar empire, but she also helped employ
hundreds of women, many of whom were cooks and or maids, just as she had been.
She offered them an opportunity that gave them a sense of value, allowed women to
become business owners and helped many families create better lives.
" I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. I was promoted from
there to the washtub. Then I was promoted to the cook kitchen, and from there I
promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations..I
have built my own factory on my own ground". Quoted from a speech given by Madam
C.J. Walker in 1912, at a National Negro Business League Conference.
We are proud to honor Madam C.J. Walker.
Our company created the first plus size, full figured fashion dolls back in 1999.Our
mission and goal back then, as it is today; is to offer a fuller figured, more curvy fashion
doll to the doll world that not only provides greater choice of dolls, but that also
celebrates real women with curves.
Our dolls were initially created to make the doll market more diverse by adding a new
dimension, but with the passing years we have seen how important it is for our dolls to
continually offer inspiration through a doll that reflects and honors our fuller figured
young girls and women for who they are and to help young girls and women embrace a
better self image of who they are.
We are looking forward to bringing you some wonderful additions, and an opportunity
for our dolls to showcase other sides of their characters as well as some extras that we
will be sharing with you soon.
We want to also say thank you to all the people who have supported us since our
inception. If you are visiting us for the first time, thank you for your support as well.
